Efficient movement for injury prevention
and performance.

The more economical you are, the faster you will travel at any effort. Small changes in the economy can produce rather dramatic changes in performance and a lot of this can be changed through skill enhancement.

Every person has different physiology and what they should be focusing on for improvement differs from the next person. Depending on if you have a longer Tibia or a shorter Femur, these mean different things when it comes to the economy. The key message is to find out what will help you create a more efficient movement and you will require less energy to perform.

To become a more efficient swimmer, there are multiple ways you can increase speed and a lot has to do with the drills you are focusing on. When we swim, the goal is to create the least amount of drag possible, so we glide along the surface of the water and avoid drudging. Depending on your weakness, we can correct head position, pull, hand entry, kick, alignment – to name a few.

Cycling, everything happens so fast when you pedal that you might not be able to piece it all together. We can break down the pedal revolution, so your understanding leads to results. Is it that you have an imbalance of power in your legs? Are you dancing on your toes? Let us break down your movement pattern and determine where your performance gains are.

Running should be a series of falls. Are you recruiting muscles to help you run? Are you creating a braking force with your heel, effectively slowing you down each step? The more economical a runner you are, the lower the chance you have of overload or injury.

At the Active Project, we have one on one or small group sessions that focus on technique and making you more economical. We know there is no one size fits all approach, so we like to offer different cues to help our clients resonate with. For example, we find filming gives immediate feedback while others a like variety of technical drills. Want to know more? Contact us today for details on the next available sessions.
